The worst scenario in online shopping is not being able to return unwanted items, particularly if they were an expensive purchase in the first place. For instance, buying expensive designer dog dresses and then not being able to return them, could put dog lovers off shopping online forever.
As it happens, there are two marketing situations where the retailer is required by law to accept the return of goods. The first is where they have delivered goods different to those ordered (wrong deliveries). And the second is where they have delivered items unfit for the purpose of manufacture (defective goods). Nevertheless, suppliers are still entitled to require the buyer to adhere to the guidelines for return of goods as detailed in their Returns Policy. So still be careful.
All online retailers have different terms and conditions listed in their Guarantees and Returns Policies. So it is a wise buyer who goes through these with a fine-tooth comb, particularly if it seems likely that the site has products and services that might tempt a purchase
Here is a flavour of the kind of offerings being made at the moment:
All sales are final. We do not accept the return of goods other than those delivered incorrectly or defective, both of which require to be notified to us within 7 days. Although we endeavour to replace the item with an identical product, this can never be guaranteed. Where appropriate, we may offer customers a credit on their account for future purchases. We do not give refunds of cash.
Return of goods is accepted for reasons other than wrongly delivered and defective goods provided they are returned within 7 days/14days/30 days of purchase. In these cases exchanges/credit/cash refunds may or may not be offered.
One can see, in just these two paragraphs, there is a lot of variation going on online regarding the return of unwanted goods.
By far the best course of action for buyers shopping online for "sight unseen" products is to read those Returns Policies carefully before shopping commences. Otherwise, they can get caught up in the excitement of the moment and pay for it dearly, and literally, later.
It always makes sense to find out whose guarantee and returns policies appear to be the most generous.
Formal designer dog clothes make great gift ideas at FashionMutt. Why? Because they can always be returned for a cash-refund within 45 days of purchase. This also applies to inexpensive designer dog fashion.
