Save Your Dog’s Joints By Using Dog Steps

by Bella Holly

Keeping your dog from self injury is a very high priority for any pet owner. But did you know that your dog could be developing bone or joint issues already? Conditions such as arthritis and hip dysplasia could be prevented by incorporating the use of dog stairs into his daily routine.

Every time your dog jumps on or off the bed, couch, car, or other high-up place, he is putting a great deal of impact on his joints and bones. The use of dog ramps and steps eliminates the need for your dog to jump, thus letting your pet enjoy healthy joints for longer!

Deciding where the steps will be used most is an important factor to keep in mind when you're picking out a set of steps. For instance, if you need dog steps for beds, you will need to know the distance from the floor to the top of the mattress. This way, your dog will not trip himself while trying to reach the bed if the steps are too short or tall. Some pet steps are designed with built-in compartments which are great for storing toys and treats.

A very important factor to keep in mind when choosing steps is how wide the steps should be in relation to the size and weight of your dog. A dog weighing less than 20 pounds should use small dog steps that are 12 inches wide. If your dog is over 30 pounds, he will need large dog steps measuring about 16 inches wide. Medium-sized dogs, between 20 and 30 pounds should do well with steps that are 14 inches in width.

Choosing the color and material of the steps can be enjoyable, as they are available in many colors, especially if you get carpeted stairs. Keep in mind that the durability of the steps is also important when picking out steps, as you want to make sure that they can withstand the prolonged impact of your dog's weight.

Why Do Many People Prefer Purebred Dogs

by Ferdinand Emy

In recent times, dog breeds recognised by kennel clubs adhere to very strict standards. These standards are so strict, yet so subtle, that they are invisible for most people. In fact, if you go to a dog breeder and demand from him or her to let you see his or her show quality puppies and pet quality puppies (both of whom are purebreds) you wont be able to say the difference at all.

Even those that are pet quality, purebred dogs can be pretty expensive. This is a result of the fact that it is highly costly to raise them, and also because when you purchase a purebred dog, you have a warranty of how the dog will be like when it grows up physically and behaviourally.

All The Same, some dog breeders dont think that the breeding process is finished, and they try to create new breeds by crossing purebred dogs from different breeds. These mixed dog breeds are created intenionally to get the optimal features of the parents.

Mixed dog breeds are often unsuccessfull because some genes are recessive, while others are prevalent resulting in not being the one the breeder desired and the pups might end up with more than one bad traits from both or one of the parents. Moreover, first generation mixed dog breeds can vary greatly from litter to litter, even with the same type of parents. Its also not uncommon to have puppies of the same litter with different characteristics in form, size, color, and hair.

As a result of this, it needs many generations to produce true mixed dog breeds that will constantly give the same features, even second, 3rd or 4th generation puppies will occasionally give nasty bewilderment by displaying a trait that managed to remain recessive up until that moment.

All The Same, many mixed dog breeds have showed consistency and have attained popularity. Possibly the most renowned of these mixed dog breeds involves the mixing of Poodles.

Mixed dog breeds that involve poodles are famous because they result in individuals with a coat that sheds very small and that produce very little dander, as well as strong hypoallergenic properties, which they get from their Poodle parent. Additionally, they inherit at least one good trait from other parent's breed, for example, the Cockapoo displays the amorous and social tendency of the Cocker Spaniel.

Nevertheless, inspite of the gains or lineage of mixed dog breeds, big kennel clubs refuse to recognise them, and it is not astonishing, given how stern they are in their rules and choices.
