How To Make Your Dog Happy

by Tornoe Rose

Owning pets is no easy task. You have a lot of responsibilities to fulfill so that they can grow up to be well-mannered animals in the future. These responsibilities include satisfying their basic needs as well as their wants. From their food to their shelter, from their grooming to their health requirements, all these chores will be yours to shoulder the moment you have possession of your beloved creature. It is no different from being a parent to a human baby.

Dogs are the most obvious choice for pets. They are devoted, highly trainable, smart and enjoyable to be with. It doesn't matter what kind of dog you like. If you like athletic breeds, you may get a German shepherd or a pit-bull. Should you prefer toy dogs like Japanese Spitz or Shih Tzu, you can easily order them at the vet's clinic. Sport dogs like Golden Retriever and Doberman are also great choices in terms of companionship.

Since you get a lot of benefits hanging out with your pet dog, doesn't it follow that you should also do everything within your means to keep them blissful? It's the least you can do for all the unforgettable moments that they have given you. Here are some significant ways to make your dog happy. Read on.

The first thing that you should do to keep your dog in a state of nirvana is to provide it with the requisite food, water, exercise, dog house and a regular visit to the friendly neighborhood veterinarian. Make sure that you are presenting them with nutrients that are appropriate for their breed and age. Bigger dogs need more calories and protein than their smaller counterparts. In the same manner, puppies have slightly different nutritional requirements than their adult counterparts. Dogs with thick and fluffy coat also need more zinc and other minerals compared to those with thinner and finer hair.

An exercise routine every day or very week is the way to go in terms of bodily activities for these four-legged canines. Walking them in the park or playing Frisbee with them three times a week for a minimum of at least 30 minutes per session is enough to give their cardiovascular system a high-quality calisthenics. This will avert them from getting obese or developing diseases like atherosclerotic hearts.

A dog shelter is compulsory to shield them from the sweltering warmth of the summer sun. Moreover, it will act as their sanctuary during the biting chill of the winter season.

Visiting the local vet will also ensure that they are in tiptop shape. Be conscious of their needed vaccinations. Shots against rabies and Parvo virus must be ticked off in their medical record. Heed your vet's advice if he has additional immunizations because they are aware that each dog breed has varying needs.

You may also give them a treat once in a while by giving them luxurious sessions in a dog spa. Cool shower baths, extensive nail clipping, fur conditioning, tooth brushing and other related services will make your pet dog feel so pampered. Consequently, these hygienic activities will also help remove the fleas that might have gotten stuck on their skin.

Spend quality time with your pooch. Aside from your bonding moments during your exercise session, make time to cuddle with him as soon as you get home from work. You may also try talking to him like you would any normal person. Studies show that relating with animals lower the stress hormone cortisol in the body. Therefore, this seemingly simple task will then give long-term benefits to both of you.

Lastly, dog-proof your home so that unwanted situations can be avoided or at the very least, minimized. Make sure all electrical appliances are kept or installed in safe places. Be careful about dangling wires and sharp or heavy kitchen tools and utensils spread just about anywhere. Place your things in their appropriate locations so that your pet dog won't trip on them.

by Skibber Labskovs

When you are a pet owner, you have a large responsibility to take care of your pet. There are many things that go into making sure your pet is healthy. If you have ever been through your pet being sick you know how heart breaking it is. I know how I feel when my dog gets sick; all I can think of is getting her healthy again. Who else wants a healthier pet?

The first thing to do to take good care of your pet is to feed them good nutritious food. Make sure this food is specially made for them. Pet food is specially designed to have all the nutritional needs included for your pet's health. Whether you have a dog or a hamster, they need the food that is specially designed for them.

Only feed them people food if the vet says you can and only what the vet says. Caffeine is not good for dogs so they need to stay away from it. It can affect a dog's heart to the extent of a heart attack. A dog doesn't need to eat sugar either.

Animals can get overweight if fed too much too. This is why feeding dogs and cats table scraps is frowned on. You can kill fish by overfeeding them. Just like people, pets can be made unhealthy by eating too many calories. Make sure that when your pet consumes water that they have sufficient water daily to be hydrated. If your pet happens to be fish in an aquarium, make sure their water is clean and clear for them. This water needs daily watching for different problems.

Be on time with your pet's annual checkup with the vet if this is relevant to your pet's health. Cats and dogs both need periodic vaccines to keep from contracting certain diseases. Rabies vaccine is especially important to them. This is even more important if you live in a location where your pets can come in contact with wild creatures.

All pets need exercise whether it be dogs or fish. Of course, fish get plenty of exercise because they are constantly swimming. Dogs and cats need to be walked, ran, and played with to make sure they get enough exercise. Exercise keeps their weight down and their muscles strong. Just like humans, it keeps their hearts strong too. Take your cat or dog out on a leash with a walk with you. That way you both are getting healthier together. Make sure if you have a hamster for a pet they have a cage equipped with a running wheel. This is the way that you can make sure that your pets are getting enough exercise.

Our pets need our undivided attention and love to be fully healthy. We should show our pets that they are love through petting them and/or talking to them. Grooming is just another show of affection as far as they are concerned. Cats and dogs either get matted coats or shed their hair too much if not brushed enough.

These tips will assist you in providing your pet with the best of care, so that they can be the healthiest they can be. Now isn't that what we all want for our pets? Get your pet healthier today!

The Pet Door – Improving Lives

by Bill Johns

Asking your pet not to be able to go out to relieve himself for eight to ten hour stretches is a lot to ask. If you're a pet owner and work outside the home I'm sure you already understand this. This only creates stress for both pet and owner.

Then, regardless of how much we love our pets there are always those times when you are home and your pet annoys you because he needs to go out to relieve himself or just to play outside. This can be a hassle especially if you are trying to get things done.

Did you know their is a simple solution to these problems? Yes, it's a pet door. More freedom for you. More freedom for your pet. Pet doors eliminate these problems and more. No more coming home to clean up after your pet. No more interruptions while fixing dinner.

The pet door itself is not that difficult to install provided you can follow directions and you're handy with tools. If not then it's fairly inexpensive to have a handyman install it for you.

Before getting your pet door you will need some basic information. The height and width of your pet, What type of pet door is best for you. Patio pet door, electronic, or wall. There are many varieties available for you to choose from.

While looking for your new pet door keep in mind how difficult it will be to install as some are more difficult than others. In any event you may just want to ask for the help of a neighbor or friend or the services of a handyman.

Pet doors come in many different sizes, shapes, colors and of course vary in price. That's why you need to do your research before making a final decision on which door you want to go with. My preference is an electronic pet door. It offers many advantages over other types.

The electronic pet door is activated by a signaling device attached to your pets collar. This gives you the peace of mind of knowing the door remains sealed, keeping out unwanted guests and only opens and closes when your pet approaches it. This also reduces the loss of heating and air conditioning.

After you've installed your pet door it's time to train your pet to use it. Just like training your pet to do anything the best course of action is encouragement and reward. They will catch on soon enough. Then both you and your pet can enjoy the new found freedom a pet door brings.
